Praised by The Times for the “purity” of his timbre, Chinese countertenor Zheng Jiang is rapidly establishing himself as a compelling artist on both the operatic and concert stage.

In 2026, Zheng is a season artist with The Mozartists, making his company debut as a soloist in the Mozart Birthday Concert at Cadogan Hall in January followed by his role debut as Sesto in Handel’s Giulio Cesare at The Grange Festival in June. Subsequently, Zheng makes his Salzburg Festival debut, appearing as Grimbald in Gordon Kampe’s King Arthur Junior, engaged as cover with scheduled performances. 

He has been selected as a Samling Artist and a Leeds Song Young Artist. From September, he joins the RCM International Opera Studio.

Recent highlights include reaching the Final of the prestigious Kathleen Ferrier Awards (2025). Further competition successes in 2025 include First Prize for the Adrian Clarke Vocal Award at Grasmere Song Festival, and Third Prize in the RCM Lies Askonas Competition, he was also recognised as a finalist in the Ashburnham English Song Awards and the Patricia Routledge National English Song Competition.

In 2024, he received the Nicholas Partridge Award for Outstanding Creativity at the Eastbourne International Singing Competition.

Operatic roles to date include Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro) and Sandman (Hansel and Gretel) with Summer Opera Lyric Theatre in Toronto. At the RCM, he covered Piero della Francesca in Jonathan Dove’s Seven Angels for the 2025 RCM Summer Opera Project. Other Opera Scenes include Ruggiero (Alcina), Title Role (Rinaldo), and Valentiniano (Ezio).

Zheng originally trained in Canada with Norma Burrowes, and completed his Master’s degree with distinction at the Royal College of Music, London, where he studied with Ben Johnson, supported by an RCM Study Award and the Josephine Baker Trust.
